Dad Birthday

19 Aug was my dad birthday. We went to Ah Oh seafood for dinner. 6 dishes for 8 persons cost $200 plus. And Ah Oh is actually at the void deck of a HDB block....kind of expensive...considering they are GST registered...means business is good for them....

After dinner we went Cold Rock at Holland V for ice-cream.

Women eat more when they are together

Read this article this morning on yesterday Straits Times.

A survey found out that women tend to eat more when they are together with other women. And they eat 17% lesser when with men.

What are the reasons? Personal view is that they are more at ease and comfortable. What do you ladies think? What about men, do we eat more or do you "stare" more when we flock together?

hmm....if the survey is accurate, than lady care groups watch out....you ladies may jolly well put on more weight in care group...

Do I like cruise?

The answer is yes and no.

YES
Cruise is very relaxing. No rush, no worries...just relax and enjoy the facilities and programmes. I kind of enjoy the "care-free-ness" of the whole journey.

I also greatly enjoy the time with Yvonne and Nathan...doing nothing, walking around the decks, watching them swim, playing table tennis...

NO
Typically not my type of holidays. Did not do anything....lol....no shopping, no massage, no sight-seeing and the food were not as great as I thought it would be.

Review Superstar Virgo Cruise

Back from the Super Star Virgo cruise......I believe Yvonne will post more pics and share more stories on her blog, so I keep my "serious" on food....after all, on the cruise nothing interest me more than the food.

Check-in
Our checked in was fast, because someone (Yvonne's colleague) help us to check -in. Walk the "walkway" to the ship. At one point, we saw 2 icon star cruise penguins, one man, one woman and a few cruise photographers trying to take pictures for us with those characters. My first thoughts ....to ask us to buy them later...am sure it's will not be free....lol

Walk way

It was a long smooth walk to our cabin (with window). When we open the door to our cabin 6520...we were delighted with the setting and the space..Nathan was excited about the upper deck bed and the Disney channel, while I was excited about the HBO channel....and Yvonne...wanting to go out to explore already.

Part of the cabin, there is a bed on the left...

The toilet : centre is the basin area, left is the stand shower, rite is the "toilet" (not in pic). Each can stand one person comfortably

We headed to the buffet dinner...Mediterranean buffet, and we were greatly greatly disappointed with the "international buffet". Lack of varieties, taste and look like food court. The worst part was, once you entered with swiping your cruise card, you cannot changed your mind.

The room acess card, also act as meals entries card, and credit card on board

programme sheets are given each evening for the next day.

After dinner, we went on to explore the ship, from pools, decks, card room, arcade.....

Next morning, we decided to try the Western restaurant (Bella Vista) for breakfast...another disappointment. The omelets were tasteless, the fruits were not fresh and mainly canned fruits...the only thing I like about the breakfast, the cereals and banana....lol

Later Yvonne and Nathan went swimming and sliding down the "tube", while i enjoyed the sea breeze and have a little time to appreciate the whole cruise.

Than come lunch...we decided to go the try out the Chinese restaurant (Pavilion). The food again was better, much better than the Mediterranean. Before the set lunch was served (oh ya, it was a standard set lunch) there was this congee buffet you can eat all you want....simple but nice as the wait for the lunch could be long. Nathan had like 3 bowls of congee...

After lunch, we exercised a little, played table tennis and carom. After which, we went tea- break. A very very very simple tea-break buffet...and taste-less....

Dinner was next, we tried the Bella Vista again. Kind of like fine dinning....presentation, colors and taste were good. The best meal I had on board....

Yvonne went to see Keeny Bee performance with her colleague, while Nathan and I were glued to the tv. Before Kenny Bee performs, I brought Yvonne to the casino to experience...we did not try our 'luck".....don't really believe in it anyway....as gambling is like drugs..highly addictive...better not to start.

Than came breakfast before check-out, we went Pavilion and the food were so-so.....

The checked-out was a little confusing, but on a whole effective....they made us all sit in the Lido theatre and disembarked section by section, row by row....Heard son complaining to his mom..."they make us all sit here and wait". His mom without hesitation replied "better than make you stand waiting...."

I will share more on how I feel about cruise in a later post...but for now....it's lunch time again....and Yvonne is cooking...I love it!!!!

Superstar Virgo Cruise

Yap...finally going on my maiden voyage on a cruise to no-where on board Superstar Virgo this evening.

I am not a real fan for cruise, think it is expensive and not worth it....hopefully this trip will prove me wrong....

We got this special offer from Yvonne's friend. Paid like a few hundred bucks lesser than normal for a window cabin. This was one of the reason why I agree to a cruise; and of course, to fulfill Yvonne's wish of trying out a cruise.

Will post some photos after the cruise..back on Sunday.......

Blood Test result is out!

Received a call from the clinic last evening while I was driving for dinner with my wife.

Clinic assistant: "Your report is back and the doctor wants to see you."
Ck: Can I come tomorrow morning?
Clinic assistant : Think you better come today....Dr Hiak is not on duty tomorrow.

So I went, with some "fear" ......

Dr Hiak : Mr Lui, omg....your cholesterol is very very high.....
Ck : (shouldn't he be telling me more about my throat ulcers and infection)...oh is it?

It turned out, my LDL cholesterol is 218 with a reference range from 0 -130 as acceptable. So I was way too high. I was put on medication ($120/month).

The blood test also confirmed I have a bacteria infection for my throat conditions. As I was much better after the prayers of my wife and son...of course the rest of you guys who prayed....I didn't really bothered to ask much about the infection.

Oh, he said I have a fatty liver too....lol....and could be due to the cholesterol level anyway....

So keep praying for me, for a slimmer liver and lower cholesterol. Also to completely recovered from the bacteria infection, as I am still coughing.....

Recovering

Last night, my wife and son prayed for healing for my throat that I will not feel pain when I wake up this morning.

Behold, I woke up this morning without the usual pain I experienced for the last 2 to 3 days. I was feeling much better and I also knew that I am recovering....

Praise the Lord!

Cheap Advertisement

Think all of us are quite familiar with this sight. Normally we see it at the bus-stop and occasionally void deck. But this guy he pasted like 7 pieces all over one lift lobby, making the lobby looks untidy and messy.

Comparing to those leaflets 'drop' at our door steps with multiple colours, this kind of self make looks a little too amateur, though still effective.

Indeed, with news of more people joining the real estate as agents, we will see more of this amateur type advertising.

Here is a link to the NDP 2009 theme song music video "What Do You See" http://www.ndp.org.sg/themevideo.php

It took me some time before I understand the seeing "moon" & "stars" mean the Singapore flag...lol

A present from my son on Fathers' Day

A Scrap book my wife helped my son to make for Fathers' day this June....

More than a teacher

Ms Margaret Kok was my primary 6 teacher. She was also the one God used to direct me to Jesus and knowing God in a relationship.

She gave me a baseball boy cut out from a gift wrappers in Sept 1980 with some writing behind. Recently Yvonne laminated it for me.

Full Body Check Up

Went to the doctor yesterday again.....

Ulcers are still there, said Dr Hiak (Dr Jack Tan said he didn't see any ulcers on Sunday). Dr Hiak recommended blood test, and since doing a blood test....we did a full body check up including stools and urine too....a total of 50 plus items....

Blood was drawn yesterday, urine and stool were passed to the clinic this morning ...

These are not rice, they are barley...been drinking 1.5litres of barley water each day since Sunday......
