Sickness I rebuke you

Having a throat infection since last Friday. It was slightly better on Monday and got worst last night. Woke up in the middle of the night with a very dry throat and run a mild fever again....37.6. The fever continue throughout the day.

Went to see the doctor again after work, she said lots of ulcers with white spots around at the back of my throat and prescribed acyclovir, an antiviral medication that cost about $80. And she said if this don't help than I would need to go for a blood test.

I have ulcers at the throat before but this seems the worst. And with the white spot, probably indicating viral infection...makes the whole thing more scary....

Saints, if you are reading my blog, please pray for me. : o)

It's Not Business, It's Personal

Currently, I am reading this thin book written by Bob Sorge. Half way through now, and have been greatly bless by the content. It makes me ponder on a few issues in my ministries.

Christian Calling

We can easily summarize 3 “Calling” in Christian walk.

Calling to relationship with God (Eph 1:4)

Christianity is basically a relationship with God. We call God intimately as Father. And relationship needs to be cultivated, reading His Word, learning to hear His voice in prayer, praise & worship.

Calling to character and personal holiness (Eph 1:5)

As we progress with our relationship with God, we cannot help it but allow Him to build up our characters and change our life style. We are called to be more like Jesus.

Calling to contribute through good works (Eph 2:10)

How would people know the love of God? By us demonstrating it. We are to serve one another and take care of the needs of the “needy”. By so doing, we show forth the love of God and introduce a relationship with God to them.

Do we wait till we have a perfect relationship and character before we start contributing? These 3 callings work hand in hand. We cannot grow in relationship with God without changing of our life style and putting our hand in the plough. Likewise, we can contribute unless we have a relationship with God.

We grow together in this 3 aspects, missing any one will not complete our walk as a Christian.

Grace and Law?

Recently, there has been a lot of discussion on what are the roles for Grace and Law for Christian.

Here's a good summary by Dr Graham,

Dr. Graham says, “We don’t keep the Ten Commandments in order to be saved; we keep them because we want to please God and bring honor to Him by the way we live. Jesus said, ‘If you love me, you will obey what I command’ (John 14:15).” 21 June 2009 interview with Seattle Post.

And personally, without the law, grace would means nothing. I am constantly reminded of God's Grace, when I fall short of His ways (law). Hence, grace is "big", "important", "meaningful" and "grace" only when there are laws.

Market-Place Ministers

Last Sunday evening, we had a fantastic time in the Men's rally. I dragged my feet there but was greatly blessed by Pastor Rick Seaward sharing. He entitled it MARKET-PLACE MINISTERS.

Here's what I think he defined it as:
"The Market Place Minister is an agent of change(transformation) by influencing the environment around him through Kingdom principle."

During the sharing, I was reminded of what I read before about market place ministry. Below was what I can summarised
"The Market Place Minister is an agent of change(transformation) by influencing the environment around him through doing what they do but better and when they recognised you, influence them with kingdom culture."

If any VFC men miss last Sunday and you are involved in market place ministry, than try to get hold of a cd and the note...you will be blessed!

Do I have enough shirt?

Had a short argument with my wife this morning....as per normal for something insignificant ...: o)

It all started when I asked her what she was wearing for her nephew wedding this coming Saturday;-

ck : so what you wearing this Sat?
yl: the purple one lor..why, you want to wear "couple" clothes huh?
ck: the only purple shirt I have is the one I am ironing now
yl: what about the purple one you had?
ck : those are very old liao, color all faded...bought it back in OUB days.
yl: who said, you bought many after also....some people only had 5 and rotate them every week (I wonder who after working for10 over years had only 5 shirts in his closet)

I got so upset, that I stormed to my closet and pull out those I have since OUB days. She came over and pointed to one out of the few (think there will like 4/5)...this is not from OUB days, it's a birthday present (she forgot, this was given to me like 3 years ago when I started work in NTU).

When I did a mental count later, I have about 10 shirts, of which 2 were someone old shirts, 3 were bought early this year, 1 was bought recently in sales($39 only, original price was $89), 1 was bought by her a few years back and 3 were bought about 2 years back.

Are these enough? Actually is more than enough...hahaha....actually I wasn't complaining about the lack of shirts...wonder why we argued this morning....

How many long sleeve working shirts you guys who work in corporate environment have in your closet?
